A Blue/Green Algae bloom was observed by board member Ron Largent along the Maiden Rock shoreline Wednesday June 23,2023. He preserved a sample and Idaho DEQ was notified.

On Thursday, Kristin Lowell from IDEQ retrieved the sample for laboratory analysis and visited both Maiden Rock and the main boat launch for additional evidence of the algae. There was very little evidence at Maiden Rock and none at the Main launch. After the lab analysis Kristin reported " We are very early in a bloom, with "knotted up" colonies that are coming up from the sediments. Toxins are well below the threshold. The Public Health Dept. has decided to wait until we actually have the numbers for an advisory".

Now that the hotter weather has arrived, we can probably expect that more outbreaks will happen. If you observe what appears to be a blue/green algal bloom, take precautions against ingestion and/or contact with humans or pets.

If you observe a possible outbreak, please contact Jerry Peterson (SLPOA Board Director) @ 208-623-4050 or This email address is being protected from spambots.
