SLPOA is asking for your help to improve the water quality of Spirit Lake and the riparian area along Brickle Creek.

Problem: Portions of the Brickle Creek bank are sluffing off into the water adding additional silts and nutrients into Spirit Lake.

  • Reduced water clarity and oxygen: Silt can make water cloudy (turbid), which blocks sunlight needed for photosynthesis by aquatic plants and reduces the water's ability to disinfect itself from pathogens. It can also lead to stagnant, smelly water and a lack of oxygen for aquatic life.
  • Smothering habitats: Silt can smother bottom-dwelling organisms and native aquatic plants, altering the habitat that fish and other species rely on for survival.
  • Algae blooms: The nutrients released from accumulating sediment can fuel excessive algae growth, leading to harmful blooms and further impacting water quality.
  • Disrupted spawning areas: Silt can interfere with fish spawning areas, preventing effective reproduction.

Solution: Plant trees and shrubs on the banks to stabilize them.

Call to action: Volunteers are needed to plant portions of the Brickle Creek bank.

  • Costs: The cost of the plants is going to be covered by Idaho Fish & Game.
  • Need: Man power…”many hands, make the work go fast”. Just a couple of hours of your time can make an impact!
  • Please RSVP to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. if you can help or need more information.
